monochrome monday: domarget halt

“Le Cévenol” rail route links Clermont Ferrand with Nimes and has 106 tunnels and many viaducts. Originally built to transport wine and opened in 1870, it still runs regular services through the stunning Haute-Loire and Cevennes countryside. You can read much more about this line on this post over on “The Enlightened Traveller.”

There are many abandoned stops on the line and this is a small halt between Brioude and Langeac, complete with old fireplace. The halt is a little way from the village as the line enters a deep cut at the village so the halt had to be placed a few hundred metres up the line.

Old orchard at Vourlhat

A favourite walk is to follow the long distance footpath (GRP) “Robe de bure et cotte de mailles”(A homespun dress and a coat of mail) which passes by our house and then climbs out of the Senouire valley from Vals le Chastel and up onto the “prairie” landscape of the high plateau above. We then leave the path and circle down back to the valley floor, taking us past the village of Vourlhat and its old orchard and ancient well. This winter was an ideal time to photograph the orchard as the bare branches gave a stark structural character to the trees especially suited to a black and white treatment.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Window

Out on a walk this last weekend we came across a building we had seen a few times but never really looked at in detail. Its an old railway building alongside the track, derelict and covered in graffiti. It proved a good subject for this weeks challenge with many different windows, inside and out.
